Desire and the urge for freedom – the 1960s and 1970s were times of great upheaval and change. After the strict norms and conventions of the 1950s, the younger generation yearned for self-determination and embraced an extravagant lifestyle. This was expressed through bold new fashions, including fancy clothes and wild hairstyles. New entertainment media transformed leisure time, and bands such as the Beatles and Queen became celebrated idols. Social movements like feminism and the hippie scene resonated through new political thinking and critiques of traditional views.
